In the villages around Jhunsi, Prayagraj, a quiet revolution is taking place — one stitch, one savings meeting, and one small business at a time. Through Matri Seva Samiti's Women Empowerment Program, hundreds of rural women across Uttar Pradesh are stepping out of the shadows of financial dependence and into roles as skilled artisans, entrepreneurs, and community leaders.
The Challenge Rural Women Face
Across rural Uttar Pradesh, women often have limited access to education, financial literacy, and independent income. Many are capable of far more than household work but lack the platform, training, and confidence to earn on their own terms. This is the gap Matri Seva Samiti has been working to close since establishing its grassroots presence in Jhunsi, Prayagraj.
Our Approach: Self-Help Groups (SHGs)
At the heart of our Women Empowerment Program is the Self-Help Group (SHG) model — small groups of 10-15 women who come together to save collectively, access micro-credit, and build livelihoods through:
Tailoring & fashion designing training
Financial literacy workshops
Entrepreneurship development sessions
Legal & gender rights awareness
Digital literacy for women
Leadership development programs
These groups don't just teach a skill — they build a support system where women in Prayagraj district learn from each other, hold one another accountable, and grow together.
A Story of Change: Sunita Devi, Jhunsi Village
One of the clearest examples of this transformation is Sunita Devi, an artisan beneficiary from Jhunsi Village, Prayagraj. Before joining Matri Seva Samiti's skill training program, she had no independent source of income.
"The skill training program changed my life. I now run my own tailoring business and support my family independently." — Sunita Devi, Artisan Beneficiary, Jhunsi Village, Prayagraj
Today, Sunita runs her own tailoring enterprise, taking orders directly from her community and contributing to her household income — something that once felt out of reach.
Her story isn't unique. Rani Devi, another graduate of our tailoring program in Prayagraj, shares a similar journey:
"Thanks to the skill development program by Matri Seva Samiti, I now run my own tailoring shop and support my family. My life has completely changed for the better." — Rani Devi, Tailoring Graduate, Prayagraj, UP
The Impact So Far
Since launching our Women Empowerment initiatives in and around Jhunsi and Prayagraj, Matri Seva Samiti has:
Trained 500+ women in tailoring and vocational skills
Formed multiple active Self-Help Groups across rural Uttar Pradesh
Delivered financial literacy and legal awareness sessions to hundreds of participants
Helped women transition from dependence to sustainable, self-run micro-businesses
Why This Matters for Rural Uttar Pradesh
When a woman in a village near Prayagraj becomes financially independent, the effects ripple outward — better nutrition and education for her children, stronger decision-making power within the household, and a visible example for other women in the community. Empowering one woman often empowers an entire family, and over time, an entire village.
